Lecture on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of Youth Day in South Africa: 'Science and Technology for Development'
Presented by Dr Sandile Ngcobo
In commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Youth Day in South Africa, the South African Embassy and the Austrian Academy of Sciences hosted a lecture on 'Science and Technology for Development'. The lecture featured the young physicist Dr Sandile Ngcobo, who presented how his ground breaking research led to the innovation of the world’s first digital laser technology.
Sandile Ngcobo holds a PhD in Physics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is a Senior Researcher at the Council of Science and Industrial Research (CSIR), one of the leading scientific and technology research, development and implementation organisations in Africa. Ngcobo is currently developing market ready laser prototypes for various multi-disciplinary laser applications. In his lecture he will focus on the use of a phase only Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) for the coherent control of the wavefront of laser light for arbitrary intensity and phase shaping.
