IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA

The South African President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, made the following announcements regarding the Covid-19 pandemic situation in South Africa: announcements

In addition to the land borders being closed until the 15.02.2021 the Minister of Home Affairs made the following announcement.

Please note, in order to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, you have to submit, as of 01.10.2020, on check-in and arrival in South Africa the following:

an original negative COVID-19 test result document which is not older than 72 hours from time of departure (test must be conducted by a certified medical practitioner and should have the name and signature of the practitioner who conducted such test); proof that you have installed the COVID ALERT SOUTH AFRICA App on your mobile phone; proof of a valid address and travel insurance for South Africa (foreign passport holders).

Furthermore, upon arrival in the port of entry, all travellers will be screened for any COVID-19 symptoms or for contact with people who have been infected with the COVID-19 virus. Travellers will also need to provide proof of accommodation address should they need to self-quarantine at the time of arrival in the country. Should the traveller display any COVID-19–related symptoms or been in contact with an infected person(s), they will be expected to take a mandatory COVID-19 test. This test will be at the traveller’s cost. If the COVID-19 test comes back positive, the traveller will be subjected to a 10 day quarantine at a designated site. The accommodation at a quarantine site will be at the traveller’s cost.

The information provided is for the current situation. It is impossible to indicate what the situation with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic will be in 2 weeks or a month or months from now and you are requested to continuously visit the website of the Department of Home Affairs www.dha.gov.za or the SA Embassy www.southafrica-embassy.at in this regard for regular updates.
