South African Movie "Ayanda"

This year the “FrauenFilmTage 2016” (Women’s Movie Days 2016) presented the South African movie “Ayanda” as part of their programme.

Screening was on Sunday, 28 February 2016, at 21h00.

Ayanda is a 2015 South African film directed by Sara Blecher. The festival title of the film was "Ayanda and the Mechanic".

The film was picked up for a November 2015 release by independent film distribution company ARRAY.

Initial release: June 13, 2015
Director: Sara Blecher
Running time: 1h 45m
Screenplay: Trish Malone
Producers: Terry Pheto, Robbie Thorpe, Busi Sizani

21-year-old Ayanda confidently manages her late father’s garage in a lively district of Johannesburg. However, when she is told that the garage must be closed eight years after her father’s death, Ayanda begins to fight this loudly and with pride – in a male-dominated world full of corruption, gender stereotypes and greasy overalls. In her film, Sara Blecher celebrates the diversity of a modern, colourful and multicultural South Africa with a great deal of humour and energy.
