The Embassy participated at the Vienna Tourism Fair from 14 to 17 January 2016.  The Fair is the biggest of its kind in Austria with around 150 000 consumers and travel trade attending.  South African Airways as well as the KwaZulu/Natal representative in Germany shared the stand with travel trade that came from the Drakensberg area as well as representatives from Thanda and Pakamisa private game reserves. The professional stand this year focussed on Kwazulu/Natal as Austrian consumers mostly travel to Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Kruger National Park.

The participation of the Embassy at the Fair is to enable the South African travel trade to sell their products while the Embassy raises the profile of South Africa as a preferable tourist destination for long haul visitors from Austria. The Embassy also arranged additional meetings for the South African participants on the side lines of the Fair.  The KwaZulu/Natal representative also gave a presentation on the province to the travel trade and consumers at a separate event.  The KwaZulu/Natal suppliers at the stand indicated their satisfaction with the number of interactions they had with the travel trade as well as consumers that visited the stand.

Over the past three years of participation with a South African stand, the Embassy has noted a steady increase of consumers that consider travelling to South Africa for holiday purposes.

There were 70 countries participating at the Fair which included tour operators, products managers, the travel media, and travel agencies.
