NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL DAY 2021

Nelson Mandela International Day is commemorated annually on 18 July in recognition of our former President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009 and pays homage to this global icon on his birthday.

On 18 July 2021 Ambassador Rapulane Molekane was a keynote speaker at the Southern Africa Documentation and Cooperation Centre (SADOCC) Nelson Mandela Day celebrations that took place at the Nelson-Mandela-Platz in Vienna, Austria. He spoke alongside Dr Franz Fischler, the former President of Alpbach Forum.

Ambassador Rapulane Molekane, Dr Franz Fischler and Ms Lydia Dyk (South African Honorary Consul to the Austrian province Lower Austria) officially inaugurated the temporary Mandela Poster Column by cutting the ribbon.

The world's first heart transplant
was done in South Africa in 1967
by South African Dr Chris Barnard.
